If you get either the base or step-up pre-configured models, they’ll start arriving on doorsteps on Friday, November 15 at the earliest. After kinda looking at it though, I’m not going to lie, I like having the zipper for the backpack on the side for the macbook, like where it’s in its own little compartment. The MacBook Pro comes with 90 days of technical support and a standard one-year limited warranty. You can, of course, extend coverage to up to three years using AppleCare+ and in-store repair. For the first time in years, I can breath a sigh of relief and recommend a MacBook Pro.
If you ARE a fan of tablets, I recommend that you consider getting a 2-1 laptop / tablet combo rather than just a tablet. The Microsoft Surface 4 Prois definitely the best 2-1 laptop / tablet on the market. The Microsoft Surface book is a great laptop for photographers and allows you to run Lightroom, Adobe Premier, and other intensive programs. Now, youcould spend a fat chunk of $$$ on the WRONG present for someone. Wrong size hiking boots, wrong fit backpack, wrong shape sleeping bag… As any adventurer will tell you, gear is a personal choice.
The Lenovo is an ultraportable Windows laptop la tente designed for light productivity tasks, while the Apple is more of a mobile workstation with a dedicated GPU to handle demanding workloads like video editing. The Apple has a brighter and sharper display, a significantly better haptic touchpad, and a better webcam for video calls. However, the Lenovo laptop’s keyboard feels more comfortable to type on, its battery lasts much longer, and it’s more portable. The Lenovo laptop’s Intel 11th Gen processor can handle some heavy workloads, but it throttles under load, while the Apple can maintain its full performance at all times. The Apple MacBook Pro 16 is much better than its predecessor, the Apple MacBook Pro 16 .
The Apple MacBook Pro 16 inch has a fingerprint sensor built into the power button at the top right corner of the keyboard. It lets you log in quickly, as well as authorize purchases in the App store or when using Apple Pay on supported sites. Overall, the M1 Pro or M1 Max’s CPU can handle nearly every type of workload. The main difference is graphical performance; the more cores the GPU has, the smoother the experience will be in graphically intensive workloads. Also, keep in mind that the M1 Max has more hardware encoders and decoders than the M1 Pro, which will significantly improve performance in applications that benefit from specialized hardware acceleration. The Apple MacBook Pro is available with an M1 Pro or M1 Max SoC .
I use the iPad on the plane, MBP at the office or hotel room. I’m still unsure if I should’ve bought the 13” M1 air for ultimate portability instead. Then I’m selling the 16” and probably will never buy such a huge laptop again. I do a lot of drafting on the plane and the 16 is unfortunately just not practical for it. The 13″ wasn’t either though, as the 13″ just wasn’t enough real estate for pallets.
The other notable design change is Apple’s decision to do away with the Touch Bar, replacing it with a row of more traditional function keys. I always found Apple’s oft-maligned Touch Bar tricky to use, so I’m glad to see the company bring back a more traditional function row — it makes this laptop feel more like a no-nonsense workhorse for professionals. It is no problem to open the lid with one hand and it does not automatically fall down at small angles, but there is slightly more bouncing compared to the smaller sibling when you adjust the opening angle . While charging over USB-C is handy, we can’t deny that MagSafe in the MacBooks of yore was excellent. The magnet system neatly secured the cable in place, but if you were of a clumsy nature and tripped on the power cable it would detach from the MacBook rather than yank it to the floor.
